Chapter 02 #23

a) William Prescott

William Prescott, commanding American forces at the 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill, played a pivotal role in this early and significant clash of the American Revolution. Though the battle is named after Bunker Hill, most of the fighting occurred on Breed’s Hill. Prescott’s leadership and the colonists’ determined defense against superior British forces, despite eventually being forced to retreat, demonstrated their resilience and commitment to the revolutionary cause. This battle, famous for the order “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes,” symbolized the American spirit of defiance and courage in the face of daunting odds.
