Chapter 06 #36

b) Jubal Early

Jubal Early was a prominent proponent of the ‘Lost Cause’ ideology after the Civil War. A former Confederate general, Early became one of the leading voices advocating for a romanticized view of the Confederacy and the Civil War. He portrayed the Confederate cause as noble and its leaders as heroic, while downplaying the role of slavery. This narrative, part of the larger Lost Cause mythology, sought to shape post-war perceptions of the conflict and had a lasting impact on Southern memory and identity.
