Rose O’Neal Greenhow was a central figure in the Confederate spy networks during the Civil War. A socialite in Washington, D.C., Greenhow used her connections to gather intelligence for the Confederacy. Her information reportedly contributed to the Confederate victory at the First Battle of Bull Run. Greenhow was later arrested by Union authorities and gained further notoriety.
