Chapter 08 #40

b) The Mann Act

The 1910 legislation known as the Mann Act aimed to combat human trafficking and protect morality. Officially titled the White-Slave Traffic Act, the law made it illegal to transport women across state lines for “immoral purposes.” The act was intended to address prostitution and other forms of sexual exploitation. While its enforcement sometimes reflected the moral and racial prejudices of the era, the Mann Act represented an early federal effort to address sex trafficking and exploitation.
