Chapter 09 #19

d) Temporary Mexican farm labor

The Bracero Program, initiated during World War II, was designed to meet the labor shortages in the U.S. agricultural sector. This program allowed millions of Mexican men to come to the U.S. to work on short-term contracts as farm laborers. Although it provided critical manpower for the U.S. war effort, the program also led to various social and economic issues, including exploitation and unequal treatment of Mexican workers, which had lasting impacts on U.S.-Mexican relations and the labor movement.
