Chapter 03 #21

c) Bucks of America

The Bucks of America was a nickname given to an all-African American unit that served in the Revolutionary War. This unit’s formation highlights the often-overlooked participation of Black soldiers in the fight for American independence. Their service, in a segregated unit, reflects the complex issues of race and equality in the early history of the United States. The inclusion of African American soldiers in the war effort, while they were still subjected to systemic inequalities, underscores the contradictions of a nation striving for liberty while grappling with the realities of slavery and racial discrimination.
