Chapter 04 #50

a) New Hampshire

The Pine Tree Riot of 1772, a protest against British royal authority, took place in what is now the state of New Hampshire. This pre-Revolutionary War event was one of the earliest acts of defiance against British rule in the American colonies. Colonists resisted the Crown’s attempts to enforce the Royal Navy’s use of white pine trees for ship masts. The riot was a significant precursor to the more widely known Boston Tea Party and symbolized the growing unrest and desire for independence among the American colonists.
