b) Prohibition of Alcohol
The primary aim of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, founded in the late 19th century, was the prohibition of alcohol. This organization, led by women, advocated for temperance and sought to reduce alcohol consumption, which they believed was the cause of many social problems, including domestic violence and poverty. The WCTU’s efforts contributed significantly to the national movement towards Prohibition, which was eventually realized with the 18th Amendment in 1920.
