c) Jacob Riis

Jacob Riis, a photographer and social reformer, used his impactful work to lead to significant tenement housing reforms. His 1890 book, “How the Other Half Lives,” exposed the squalid living conditions in New York City’s slums through powerful photographs and descriptions. Riis’s work raised public awareness about urban poverty and led to improvements in housing conditions, sanitation, and other social reforms. He is remembered as a pioneering figure in photojournalism and urban reform.
