d) The Buffalo Soldiers

The nickname “The Buffalo Soldiers” was originally given to the all-black cavalry units that fought in the Indian Wars and later was used to refer to the all-black infantry division in World War II. These soldiers faced segregation and discrimination within the U.S. military but served with distinction and bravery. Their contributions during the war helped pave the way for the eventual desegregation of the U.S. Armed Forces.
